Get Lucky by Daughter
originally by Daft Punk ft/ Pharrell & Nile RodgersIt was only a matter of time before covers, remixes, and mashups started popping up of the lead single from Daft Punk’s much-anticipated Random Access Memory. Here, Daughter offers up a low-key version which has more of an “again, the morning after” feel to it. —indieandyy

“They’ll Never Take Her Love Away from Me” - Elliott Smith
originally by George JonesSo much sadness in this little song and video. Elliott is clearly sad while playing it (he mentions having just broken up with his girlfriend “two days ago”) and it’s a sad old country song in general. But now both these men, Elliott and George, are no longer with us, Elliott having left us nearly ten years ago now (!) and George passing away this morning.

Ignition (1901 Remix) by The Hood Internet
originally Ignition by R. Kelly + 1901 by PhoenixBOUNCE BOUNCE: We don’t usually repeat tracks, but when R. Kelly and Phoenix did a live mashup at Coachella we pretty much didn’t have a choice but to recreate it. Hopefully this means R. Kelly is at the stage of his career where he just shows up and sings “Ignition (Remix)” over other people’s songs all the time.

“Surrender” by Frightened Rabbit
Originally by Cheap Trick
AV Undercover is back in full swing for it’s fourth season of excellence. In case you’re unfamiliar with this project by Onion’s AV Club, it’s quite simple - the AVC makes up a list of 25 songs and over the course of 25 weeks, bands come through and get to pick a track to cover. Once a band picks a song, it’s off limits for the remaining bands. This week, the always reliable Frightened Rabbit takes a crack at the 70’s coming-of-age teen anthem, “Surrender” by Cheap Trick. Naturally, the results are pretty damn great.
