"I Got Knocked Down (But I’ll Get Up)" by School of Seven Bells
Originally by Joey Ramone
Back in December, Benjamin Curtis (School of Seven Bells, Secret Machines) lost his battle with lymphoma. It was a terrible loss for music fans as a whole, not just for fans of his previous work, but for the potential fans who were coming to hear his work with each new release. Now, months later it’s come to light that Curtis fought through the disease to keep recording and creating music that will go on in his absence. One of those tracks is this cover of Joey Ramone's “I Got Knocked Down (But I'll Get Up)”, a song that Ramone recorded as he fought his own battle with lymphoma. Now, Curtis's bandmate and partner Alejandra Dheza has released the track as well as a lovely video as a reminder and celebration of a talented man. In the coming months, we will get to hear more as Dheza finalizes the band’s last album which Curtis was working on upon his passing. It’s a nice note to remember a special artist who never quite broke through in the way that he deserved.
