Here, Native America manages to shift things up by tackling the hit single as a jangly, lo-fi charmer with sweet, sing-a-long lead vocals and gorgeous choral backing vocals replacing the original’s airy synths. It’s the kind of cover that feels off the cuff, but absolutely loaded with talent - like some lifelong friends who’ve played together forever, breaking out an acoustic cover around a crackling campfire on a late autumn night.
"Takes Me Back (Until the End of Time)" by Active Child
Originally by 2Pac (Instrumental of “Until the End of Time”)
* features sample of Mr. Mister’s "Broken Wings"
Randomly came across an instrumental of one of favorite posthumous 2Pac releases recently. It instantly transported me back to my high school days when I would make mixes for my commute to and from school. As I sat and reminisced I figured i’d drop the instrumental into ableton and have a sing over it. That sing slowly transformed into a rough song of sorts that I thought I’d share with you guys today. Not exactly original music, but something to listen to none the less. Hope you enjoy much love -
Minneapolis based musician and photographer, Mark Newcome Kartarik, has a Soundcloud page peppered with stripped down, acoustic covers of great songs from bands like The National, Radiohead, and Sparklehorse to name a few. One of those covers is this hushed, lovely take on “You Caught the Light” by CHVRCHES.
New York synth pop duo, MS MR, does a sort of languid and dreamy lounge version of LCD Soundsystem's “Dance Yrself Clean”. The effect is certainly charming as all hell. Especially the back-end when the track picks up and shifts into a shimmering new wave jam.
