Well, yesterday’s Fiona Apple cover was so popular, I decided to keep a good thing going. In that spirit, then, here’s another old standard, this time offered up by Fiona and her older sister Amber, who performs under the stage name Maude Maggart.
Yes, you read that right: Fiona Apple has an older sister who also makes music (mostly cabaret) - and Fiona Apple’s actual real name is the decidedly less catchy Fiona AppleMcAfee Maggart.
This beautiful a capella duet of the old standard, “It’s Only A Paper Moon”, makes you feel a bit envious of any fly on the Maggart’s walls growing up - and makes your family sing-a-longs look like crap.
All I Want For Christmas Is You by Lois Casino originally by Mariah Carey
I’d begun to hate the Mariah Carey version of the song. Maybe it was because I’d seen Love Actually too many times, maybe it was because every girl in choir wanted to sing this song at every holiday recital, maybe because the saccharine-filled production of the song gave me toothache. In any case, this cover makes me like the song again. —Nathaniel James
Nature In Experiment by Love In October originally by Tokyo Police Club (via inperspective)
Love In October hails from Chicago, sort of. Half of the quartet is from Sweden, one from Finland, and the fourth is US-born. If you dig this cover of Canada’s Tokyo Police Club, be sure to check out their original material. Also, for you visual people, here’s their video for Experiment. —indieandyy
