I can’t imagine anyone is going to argue that this cover is better than the original, but it’s a fun take on a perfect song. So here goes Tokyo Police Club with their 2007 entry into their 10 Covers/ 10 Years/ 10 Days project. The melancholy is gone, and it’s transformed into more of a rocking affair, but it’s still solid and worth a listen. Be sure to check out the Tokyo Police Club Soundcloud page to keep up with their 10 Covers/ 10 Years/ 10 Days project.
Add another solid cover to the Tokyo Police Club 10 Covers Project. This time they take Phoenix’s 2007 ear candy treat, “Long Distance Call” for a rollicking ride. Definitely one of the better of the bunch so far. Give it a listen for sure! Be sure to check out the Tokyo Police Club Soundcloud page to keep up with their 10 Covers/ 10 Years/ 10 Days project.
So I am huge fan of bye lai mar. HUGE. One of my fave artists on Bandcamp and now well I’m just in awe of what has been created. A stripped down, fucking brilliant cover of Purity Ring’s stellar jam that first got us all in love with the ring to the purity, “UNGIRTHED.” Seriously folks get ready to behold a whole lot of eargastic genius! And it’s free to download over at Bandcamp (and while there check out all the awesome goodies bye lai mar has up)! And just in case you’re not on the Purity Ring train yet, jump on, seriously you won’t regret it for a sec!
Continuing with their 10 Covers / 10 Years / 10 Days project, today we get Tokyo Police Club taking on Queens of the Stone Age with the help of Orianthi’s guitar muscle. It’s another solid take that doesn’t take too many liberties with the original but is an interesting sound all the same. Be sure to check out the Tokyo Police Club Soundcloud page to keep up with their 10 Covers/ 10 Years/ 10 Days project.
I’m really digging this version of The Beach Boys’ “Feel Flows” by Brooklyn’s Top Dreams. This is a great jam to cover for starters and I’m totes impressed by Top Dreams recreation of it. Think Washed Out meets Mika. It’s fucking awesome, I mean nothing tops the original but oh this comes damn close! Feel Flows can be downloaded for free over at Bandcamp!
So far, they’ve handled The Strokes,Moby, and Jimmy Eat World so naturally, the next step is Kelly Clarkson. Of course it is. They do a ragged, jangly pop take on the pop hit and it’s a fun time all around. Be sure to check out the Tokyo Police Club Soundcloud page to keep up with their 10 Covers/ 10 Years/ 10 Days project.
So really is it possible to take two geniuses like James Murphy and David Bowie and then sort of mashup two stellar jams of theirs and umm cover them to a perfect brilliant tee!? The answer is fuck yes it’s possible. Brooklyn’s Lightouts (Greg Nelson and Gavin Rhodes) do just that. Seriously this is so good I don’t really know what do do with myself! Put on your red shoes underneath the serious moonlight and dance yrself clean to “All I Want/Heroes!” You can check out more from Lightouts courtesy of their Soundcloud page!
Continuing with their 10 Covers/ 10 Days/ 10 Years project started with Moby’s “South Side” and continued yesterday with Jimmy Eat World’s “Sweetness, here is Tokyo Police Club trying their hand at The Strokes’ “Under Control”. The festivities are kept fairly close to the chest on this one as they don’t really change things up all that much, but that’s fine because it’s a solid cover all the same.
Continuing with their 10 Covers/10 Days/ 10 Years project started yesterday with the cover of Moby’s “South Side”, today Tokyo Police Club go back to a soft spot of mine by diving into Jimmy Eat World’s “Bleed American” days (I’m a sucker for Clarity and Bleed American) and they bring with them Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit to sweeten the deal. Definitely worth a listen. Subscribe to Tokyo Police Club’s Soundcloud page for each new cover.
Tokyo Police Club are embarking on a little mission to do ten covers over the next ten days which span ten years of popular music. Sounds pretty nifty. Here’s the first from the batch and it’s a pretty rock solid cover of Moby and Gwen Stefani’s hit, “South Side” from the album Play. Subscribe to Tokyo Police Club’s Soundcloud page for each new cover.
Nothing can really top the talented as fuck swede Robyn doing anything but hey this cover of “Call Your Girlfriend” or ahem now it’s “Call Your Boyfriend” by Noah And The Whale is fun. I dig it. Def worth a listen, check it out!
