Help! by Michael Avishay (of Ghost Animal):
Today (December 8th) is thirty years since John Lennon was shot and killed outside the Dakota apartment buildings in NY. In memory of him (my biggest influence, my most dominant idol whose shadow I can never escape), I recorded live three of my favorite John-penned Beatles songs: Help! (above), Norweigan Wood, and You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away. You can download and listen to all of them below. I also included a list of my top ten favorite John Lennon (Beatles and solo) songs. In my mind, John Lennon is one of the very few musicians whose pain, love, hate, and joy you can truly feel in his songs and recordings. Aside from being a genius and a brilliant songwriter, that, I feel, is what sets Lennon apart from anyone else (the other Beatles included). I hate getting sappy or soppy, but few people in music or the arts mean as much to me as John Lennon does.
